The Dream Begins

Last Thursday and Friday the dreams of footballers were made reality, with the journey beginning for so many young men in the AFL. In recent years the ACC has success with having talented footballers drafted and this year wasn’t any different.

Four young men have now embarked on a dream that they have worked so hard towards. The four boys include:

Miles Bergman – St Bede’s College student who was selected at pick 14 by the Port Adelaide Football Club.  Miles plays his club football with the Sandringham Dragons and this year for school was apart of an ACC Senior Premiership and also apart of St Bede’s College first ever Herald Sun Shield win, where Miles won the Neale Daniher Medal for best player in the game.

Dylan Williams – Whitefriars College student who was selected at pick 23 by the Port Adelaide Football Club. Dylan plays his club football with the Oakleigh Chargers and has been a major contributor to his school and his participation in ACC Sport.

Jake Riccardi – St Bernard’s College Old Boy who graduate in 2017 has been striving to get drafted since his school completion. Jake was drafted to the GWS Giants with pick 51. Jake played club football through Werribee and when he was a student at St Bernard’s he was apart of a historic win in the ACC football competition and Herald Sun Shield competition in 2017 where he captained the side to both victories.

Ryan Byrnes- St Bede’s College students who was selected at pick 52 by the St Kilda Football Club. Ryan plays his club football alongside Miles at Sandringham Dragons and was also apart of St Bede’s ACC Senior Premiership and first ever Herald Sun Shield win.

All the schools and staff involved in the ACC would like to congratulate these fine young men on their selection and wish them well as they begin their careers as professional footballers in the AFL ranks.

One of the best things about ACC football is the fact that our elite players, our schools, families and TAC Clubs work collaboratively to ensure that our talented athletes experience the joy and excitement of pulling on their school jumper with their close mates, balanced with meeting the expectations of the Talent Managers involved in the elite player pathway. On top of that, none of our schools offer sporting scholarships, so the fact that we can celebrate having four players drafted is certainly something to promote within the football community. ACC Sport, and in particular the ACC football program, continues to develop outstanding players and young men of the highest calibre – all whilst developing from within.
